A HOMAGE TO MOVIE POSTERS – BEHIND THE SCENES
The photographers of Athlone Photography Club are a diverse bunch. We like many different genres of photography; landscape, wildlife, street, portraiture, the list goes on. So we wanted a challenge that the entire club could participate in and exercise our creative muscles.
Let’s do Hollywood baby!! How about doing a homage to the art of seductive movie posters. Seductive posters whose purpose is to entice people into a cinema by giving them a glimpse of the story to be told. This is exactly what we all try to do in all of our photos. So why not give it a try? Let’s mimic an iconic movie poster, deconstruct it and see what makes it tick?
This was the bones of the challenge presented to the club. The challenge created a great buzz among the members, with each one getting excited about the possibilities of recreating their favourite movie poster or making up their own unique work.
Everyone was responsible for their own shoot, it was their vision, they were the director. Next we asked our local, beautiful, talented models if they would like to get involved. Needless to say they were totally on board and started adding to the pot of ideas.
The photographer’s challenges:
Come up with an idea or a recreation of your favourite movie poster.
Figure out the technical aspects of recreating the image and style of the poster.
Get a model or two if required.
Get the location.
Get the equipment. Everyone has a camera but lights, we need more lights 😉
Get the help. Everyone in the club is always willing to lend a hand in whatever way they can so this was an easy task
Bring it all together and shoot.
Photoshop it. Add the text and style the photo, give it that Hollywood pizzazz!
Organise the printing and mounting of the images.
